The Dodge Dart name is more than a tribute to the heritage of the original Dart -- it's a tribute to its aerodynamic design.

It's good thing, too, as the new Dodge Dart Rally Car will get plenty of air time with X-Games star and Rally America Champ Travis Pastrana at the wheel during the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship.

"Everything I've done in my entire life has been about aggression, going for broke, taking chances. Dodge Dart allows me to get back to my roots," Pastrana said.

Motorsports start thinking and planning about getting involved in rally cross just since last April. While SRT Motorsports may be relatively late in putting all the pieces together, Pastrana said it won't be an issue.

In talking about SRT Motorsports and Dodge, he said, "These guys do things really meticulous. They do it right."

While the full Global RallyCross Championship schedule is not finalized, the first race is all set: May 26 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, in tandem with NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series stop.

SRT Motorsports President/CEO Ralph Gilles said having a car in the GRC will help the company connect with the 16-34 age group, "an audience we really haven't connected with in our motorsports."

Both Gilles and Dodge Brand President/CEO Reid Bigland said the decision on a rally car sponsorship with Pastrana was a natural one.

"We look for people that represent Dodge who fit our DNA," Gilles said. "These are approachable men, fun-loving who get the most out of life.

"Just cool people."

Bigland added that Pastrana "is a proven winner. He epitomizes what Dodge is all about, about an extreme competitive spirit and at the  same time wanting to have fun."
