When I'm asked, I tell people I'm from Detroit. While I don't live in the city limits, I live close enough that I want to be identified by Detroit and its heritage of hard working people and cultural diversity.
So when the Chrysler Group coined the term "Imported from Detroit," I got it. I didn't even work for the automaker at the time. I was working at the Detroit ABC affiliate as a TV News Producer.
